So I just got the October issue of Teen Vogue in the mail, and was flipping through the young Hollywood part, and Stephen was in there.
What it says:

When MTV fused its can't-miss reality formula with an O.C.-style backdrop, Laguna Beach seemed to be the ideal place for surf, sun, and scandal. "When we were filming it, I thought, How entertaining can we be?" says Stephen. But the show's star seriously underestimated the appeal of the soap-opera-like drama that was unfolding amongst his group of friends.

Because of the show's popularity, Stephen can no longer roam California beaches anonymously. Fans just can't resist butting in on his life: "It's hilarious when people I don't know try and spit advice to me about girls and all that. It's pretty crazy."
